How to be less of an asshole

“Unspoken expectations are premeditated resentments”
Neil Strauss

I’ve found that it’s harder to course correct after you piss someone off, but if you can set expectations ahead of time then people are prepared for your lunacy. People like knowing what they can expect. We don’t like being caught off guard.

Good friends are assholes

“a friend will tell you what you want to hear, but a good friend will always tell you what you need to hear”

Week 71 Wanderings
Sometimes I need this reminder. Western culture is oftentimes quite polite and accepting but I realize that I very much appreciate those relationships that call me on my BS. They’re hard to come by and it can be painful when they do, but I think we all need those people to keep us in check.

A Goodie Podcast – Hero’s Journey

Wade Davis #652 Tim Ferris (2.5 hours)

We’re all on a hero’s journey (or should be if we want to enjoy life). We’ve all got some problem or challenge that we’re trying to overcome.

That’s why we CAN’T solve them definitively. We just keep getting better and better. But ‘problems’ never fully go away. Nor should we want them to.

For the longest time I thought I could relax after ‘just this project’ or ‘just this assignment’ but that’s not really how it works. They keep coming. You got to pay yourself first.

Intentional Relationships

“The single most powerful thing you can do in a relationship, whether it’s personal or professional, is to give someone 100% of your attention”

If we’re living in distraction are we even really experience this experience?
