Some Illumination

“Your idols give you insight to your values”
Unknown

I first heard this a few years ago and it’s stuck with me ever since. We get celebrity idols shoved down our throats all the time – NFL and NBA and musicians and Grammy and Oscar winners…

It wasn’t until I really started thinking about people I was inspired by that I started to figure out who I was. These weren’t people I looked up to in every aspect of life, but did a handful of things exceptionally well: Yvon Chouinard. George Carlin. Charles Bukowski. Patrice O’neal. Bobby Sands. Steve Jobs. Mark Twight.

A Delightful Skiing Documentary

The North Face Presents: Lhotse ft Hilaree Nelson and Jim Morrison

Speaking of inspirational… I love watching these things – they open my eyes to what’s humanly possible.

Some Sentimentality

“Sentiment without action is the ruin of the soul”
Edward Abbey

Oof. Just oof. A good buddy told me this a couple years ago when we were trying to figure out this life thing then. It resurfaced and reminds me of David Goggins’ sentiment “Don’t put me on a pedastal”.

As soon as we put others achievements out of reach they become ‘superhuman’ and we relieve ourself of the responsibility to even try.

Imposter Syndrome

“The antidote to imposter syndrome is honesty”
Dan Koe

What are we capable of and what are we trying to sell ourselves as? I’ve found this so incredibly difficult to do, but the more honest I can be with myself and the people around me, the less I find myself trying to please others – I’m not an imposter, just myself.

Banger of the Week

Overtime by Zach Bryan

^A delicious country song.
