Language vs Emotion
Coined by Julia West.
Discovered in the book Emotional Intelligence 2.0
The deeper I dive in to the nuances of the English language and just how powerful words are, the more I realize the importance of being specific.
The same way in the book 1984, words like ‘Rebellion’ were banned to help prevent the organization of one, without the ability to clearly define a problem (or in this case an emotion) it’s incredibly difficult to address something. How do we deal we something we don’t even realize that we are facing?
Sometimes the words at our fingertips don’t allow us to describe what we’re feeling. Perhaps this chart can be of assistance.
Words of Wisdom
Happy/Sad Song
Eyes Closed by Ed Sheeran
I’m not much of an Ed Sheeran fan, but he performed in a giant stadium with another artist I very much enjoy so I had gotten tickets… I am now a fan. Like all good artists there are quite a few of his songs that have an insane amount of emotion and tell a story that make them quite interesting listens. Eyes Closed hit at the right place at the right time, hopefully you enjoy it too.
Artful Inspiration
First heard this from a buddy I met on a spontaneous 10 day trip to Utah. Never knew the kid before, but it resonated so I went searching. Found the pic on Medium, thanks Eddy. Double thanks Calvin and Hobbes.
Good stuff.
