A new icebreaker I learned
“What’s your hottest take on food”
Asking “what do you do for a living” is a dumbass question. First off, it’s a boring conversation starter. Secondly, rarely do people LOVE what they do. And THIRDLY, it immediately puts people in a box that they may not deserve to be in. An old buddy told me about this fantastic ice breaker.
Most recent response: “I hate beans. All types of beans. I hate them, just won’t do it”
Oooh, now we can have an interesting conversation.
A good podcast with some smart dude
Jeff Bezos on the Lex Fridman podcast
A notable quote and 2 ideas that stick out:
- “Be stubborn on the vision but flexible on details” – Jeff Bezos
- 10,000 years clock
- Creative people create things so that the next generation can take it for granted and build upon it. We now take Amazon for granted so that now we can use it to build the next best thing
The 10000 Year Clock (3 min video) lives in the depths of Texas and is a literal clock built to last for 10,000 years reminding us to think of the future instead of how temporary we are. What will the world look like? What will humans be doing? What impact will we have had?
“The vision was, and still is, to build a Clock that will keep time for the next 10,000 years. As I see it, humans are now technologically advanced enough that we can create not only extraordinary wonders but also civilization-scale problems. We’re likely to need more long-term thinking”
Jeff Bezos
Grateful for being happy
“Gratitude for every day along the way is the key to acknowledging and enjoying happiness now”
5 Regrets of the Dying
Reminds me of a quote I saw by Alex Hormozi:
“Patience is figuring out what to do in the meantime”
Taking advantage of advantages
Concept: Increase your luck surface area.
You can increase your luck surface area, by putting yourself out there and increasing probabilities of cool things happen. (Might’ve been from Sahil Bloom)
- Ask to pet peoples dogs
- Work in cafes instead of at home
- Start conversations with service workers
- Saying yes to every opportunity even if seemingly no direct ROI
A similar take by a good friend “I’ve had some very remarkable conversations with people I’ve met on planes before”.
A recent jungle hike with some marines because I say ‘sure’ several times in a row.
A banger that gets it bumping
Bongo Cha Cha Cha (3 mins)
Every 3 months this song pops in to my head and I have to dance to it.
