Week 59 Wanderings (12-26-2023)

Hopefully you enjoy yourself. Here’s some ideas to hopefully make Christmas just a tad easier.

  1. A Poem on Smiles
  2. A Concept for Emotions
  3. A Sad & Liberating Truth
  4. Dealing with Difficult People

Some Discounted Joy

“The value of a smile at Christmas

It costs nothing, but creates much.

It enriches those who receive, without impoverishing those who give.

It happens in a flash and the memory of it sometimes lasts forever,

None are so rich they can get along without it, and none so poor but are richer for its benefits.

It creates happiness in the home, fosters good will in a business, and is the countersign of friends.

It is rest to the weary, daylight to the discouraged, sunshine to the sad, and Nature’s best antidote for trouble.

Yet it cannot be bought, begged, borrowed, or stolen, for it is something that is no earthly good to anybody till it is given away.

And if in the last-minute rush of Christmas buying some of our salespeople should be too tired to give you a smile, may we ask you to leave one of yours?

For nobody needs a smile so much as those who have none left to give!”

The most widely accepted Emotional Wheel by Robert Plutchik

The Emotional Wheel

Christmas tends to be the time of year where I feel the most gratitude in my life.

Time to contemplate relationships, family, friends, and appreciate what you’ve got. It’s a reminder that people care and if you’re brave enough, show other people you care too.

Relationships get difficult though and it rarely seems like we’ve got the words to understand what the hell emotions we’re feeling. That seems to be life in a nutshell – Misunderstanding.

A good buddy told me about this Emotional Wheel about half a year ago, maybe it’ll help.

Quote for Life

“It’s not easy to find happiness in ourselves, and it is not possible to find it elsewhere”

This one hits. It’s definitely a grind. But nobody else is gonna do it for you.

Kickass Concept Dealing with People on Christmas

“Attack the problem not the person”

We all have our own ideas. Unfortunately, we’ve all got a pretty big ego – we like our ideas… a lot.

We think we are our ideas.

When other people don’t like our ideas, sometimes we think they don’t like us.

I can be a bit blunt in my verbal deliveries, sometimes causing hard feelings. I’m realizing it helps to explain to people you care about them before just simply disputing their ideas.

We take these things personal, but we don’t have to.

You are not your ideas.
Attack ideas not people.

Love the Die with Zero concept. As you’ve said before, personal relationships and interactions are the most important and lasting rewards in this life in my opinion.

Your question of how do you want to be remembered at your funeral is so awesome. It’s actually exactly what I did my sophomore year in college. I was going to do physical therapy but wasn’t into it and I was lost until I asked that question. That set me on a path to teaching. My thoughts were that I wanted to do something that would benefit society and help others. I wanted a consistent and stable income. I wanted a family and enough time off with them to share life experiences, trips, games, etc.

I could have easily gone into a “mathy” profession like accounting, economics, business and made more money, but my sophomore year of college is when I decided all of these other things were more important than money and while I wish I had more, I wouldn’t change a thing about my chosen path. I love teaching and I couldn’t be more proud of my family and kids.

Great work on the blog and I love reading it. You are very introspective and thoughtful for your age (life experience) and its awesome. Keep it up sucka!!

      B-Worth!

“benefit society and help others” dude that’s kinda wild you knew that as a sophomore.

‘I could have easily gone into a “mathy” profession like accounting, economics, business and made more money, but my sophomore year of college is when I decided all of these other things were more important than money and while I wish I had more, I wouldn’t change a thing about my chosen path. this is so sick. I love hearing from other ppls point of views and their stories and what worked and what didn’t. Talked to Aaron Shoolroy a couple months back and he echoed a SUPER similar sentiment. ‘the money will come, you’ll be okay, but the time doesn’t’

That makes me happy you’re enjoying it. Sometimes I throw these ideas in to the void and never know what comes out so it’s so cool to hear it resonating and so cool to hear your story too, I love it
