This Weeks Adventures
Ok this weekend was actually kinda sick. First real multi-pitch rock climb. Living in Vegas now, so I’m kind of spoiled in terms of climbing – The rock climbing is kickass and I’ve got a roommate that’s super in to it… So I’ve been getting sucked in and I’ve kind of excited.
We did a 4-pitch climb in Red Rocks, rated 5.7 or 5.8. Honestly, I sorta thought I cruise through it but turns out that when your life depends on the metal pieces you put in rocks it gets a little bit scary. Each time I put myself in positions that scare me, I get to learn a little more about myself each time.
Idea from my Roommate
Your reputation is a bank.
It goes both ways. The bank is there to be used as a tool, just as money is. If you invest small bits regularly you can withdraw a little bit bigger if you need a favor. Interesting idea anyways. You can’t just keep pulling from it but if you build up credit people are more forgiving when you make mistakes. Queue The Godfather (fantastic book by the way)
Quote Time
“Be as you wish to seem”
- Socrates
I dunno, dude. For some reason, this quote did it for me. You might fool people a handful of times but over the long run, people will notice. For better or for worse, if you want to be seen a certain way act like it.
Creativity
‘The most creative minds are really just the best at rearranging’
- Jeff Goins – Real Artists Don’t Starve
Nothing is original. Everything has already been created. But we’re in luck because there’s an infinite number of ways to rearrange. The iPhone wasn’t anything new… it just mixed a phone with the internet. Both already existed.
A Great Book
Steal Like an Artist by Austin Kleon
This book is a real quick read but fantastic for anyone interested in the creative space. He’s got 2 other books, one of which I’ve read and is phenomenal. It’s called Show Your Work and it’s a great read. Super short and impactful too.
