This Week’s Adventures
Ahh. Another chill weekend at the house – My favorite. Seth recently acquired a sewing machine and that dude has been grinding on his new backpack that he’s building from scratch. Rex’s van that he’s going to live out of is just about finished. It’s honestly pretty impressive. The van life is just weeks away from being a reality.
Several down, chill, boring (or whatever adjective you choose to describe) weekends in which you stay home and do nothing have weird effects. I didn’t really do anything and yet during the week I felt like I never had enough time for anything. It’s a weird dynamic where as soon as the schedule is packed, your brain sorts through all the things it needs (& wants) to get done, but as soon as the schedule is 100% open there’s a weird vacuum that’s created. I find that the infinite possibilities are overwhelming. The freedom is intoxicating and if I don’t plan anything, I find myself almost wasting time. Like I have to force myself to enjoy the weekends.
It made me realize that as much as a distaste as I have for planning, it’s necessary if I want to get anything done (even for things I want to do)!
A Rando Quote
“And everywhere, infinite options, infinite possibilities. An infinity, and at the same time, zero. We try to scoop it all up in our hands, and what we get is a handful of zero”
― Haruki Murakami, The Elephant Vanishes
No clue who this guy is, but I kinda mess with what he’s trying to say. All at once & nothing at the same time. As humans it feels hard to conceptualize this idea of infinity. So we have to break things into smaller parts. Tackle 1 task at a time. Build habits. Eat better little by little. Work out day by day. The true power is little by little, through compound interest, over a long period of time. I’ve found just how dang powerful that is in all aspects of life, not just financial.
An Idea of Ideas
“To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research”
- ‘Attributed to Steven Wright in recent years, but earliest strong match comes from Wallace Notestein’ According to Quote Investigator
People don’t really know the origins but holy smokes that’s true. No idea really is original. Stir up your inspirations in a pot and see what you get.
Another Daily Tip
They do a Daily Economics/Business Newsletter each morning. It was created by a dude named Alex Lieberman who just wanted a concise representation of the financial landscape. Years later he sold it for $75 million to Business Insider :0
It’s kind of nice because I don’t have to go look at how the markets are doing, every once in awhile they just give you a nice market update. Plus, they occasionally attach interesting links and articles that I find enjoyable. The Morning Brew was one of the first newsletters that inspired this one your reading 🙂
My English teacher junior year of high school (6 years ago :0) told me about Morning Brew and I’ve been getting reading them since. (Woah, I didn’t realize it’s been that long)
Crazy Fight
Islam Makhachev vs Alexander Volkanovski
I’m not super in to MMA but occasionally I’ll watch. This had been a fight I’d been wanting to watch for awhile now. The entire story behind it, the competing ideologies, the difference in fighting styles, the unconquerable Russian-style wrestling. The whole story was phenomenal. The fight? Everything you could’ve asked for. To watch a fight at the highest level in the world where 2 guys have trained to an unbelievable degree and believe to their core that they’ll win. Pretty incredible.
Bonus: The faceoff is pretty hilarious.
What Is This ‘Newsletter’?
Apparently, people care (mostly just my mom) so this newsletter serves to ensure I can stay more involved with people in my life. The hope is if I’m able to share bits and pieces of my life, other people will share theirs, and the result will be a far more interconnected community. So if you would like to hear more (or less), just ask!
The other piece of this newsletter will be to share interesting podcasts, songs, facts, or other pieces of information that had an impact on me in the hopes that they’ll be interesting or useful to someone else out there!
Also, I would love to hear from you so please respond and send some pictures!
